Self-isolating, social distancing, and working from home, has been essential in flattening the curve and stopping the spread of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). Now that we’re in week 3 (week 4 or week 5 for some) or whatever number week we’re on when you’re reading this, now more than ever we need coping skills and strategies to help get us through this pandemic. Filing Taxes for Youth 101

Due to the current Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID19) pandemic, our Federal Government has had to make adjustments to compensate for both the health and economic impacts of COVID-19. A major economic adjustment isthe due date for filing 2019 taxes changed from April 2020 to July 15, 2020.

CCY is urging youth who are eligible to file their taxes and for service providers and youth allies to assist youth in filing. The following is a quick guide about taxes for youth and youth filers.

My name is Jason and I am a staff member at the California Youth Crisis Line. Twice a month I will be interviewing a different member of our crisis line team and share our discussion on our Crisis Line blog and newsletter.  Each conversation is unique and is conducted with a real member of our staff and/or volunteer team. We want to remind everyone that stress reduction is important, now more than ever. The California Youth Crisis Line is here for you if you need to talk, de-stress, or get access to resources and services, call or text us 24/7 at (800) 843-5200 or chat with us online at www.calyouth.org/chat.

According to the CDC the people who may respond more strongly to the stress of a crisis include:

  • Older People and people with chronic illnesses who are at higher risk for COVID-19
  • Children and teens.
  • People who are helping with the response to COVID-19, like doctors and other health care providers, or first responders.
  • People who have mental health conditions including problems with substance use.

Youth Empowerment Summit 2020 UPDATE

The Following is a Message from California Coalition for Youth Executive Director, Jevon Wilkes:

Dear Friends,
As a result of the recent COVID-19 public health situation, the California Coalition for Youth’s (CCY) Board of Directors, Executive Director, and Youth Empowerment Summit (YES) Committee have decided not to hold YES as scheduled for March 29-31, 2020. This decision is based on the strong recommendations from the California Department of Public Health and the Governor’s office: California Department of Public Health recommendations.
The health and safety of our supporters, volunteers, staff and partners, many of whom provide essential physical and mental wellness care in our community, is a top priority.
