Youth Homelessness, Outreach, Prevention, Education Month, or Youth HOPE Month, is a nationally recognized effort of the National Runaway Safeline. It is a statewide awareness campaign spearheaded this November by the California Coalition for Youth (CalYouth), its members, supporters, and advocates to address, prevent, and end youth homelessness in California.
Our mission this November is to increase awareness, advocate, and educate communities of youth experiencing homelessness or youth runaways in California. Through social media campaigns and events held by our member organizations, we hope to highlight the overlap between at-risk, at-promise, and underserved youth. While many people tend to think of youth and young adult populations as separate, the fact is that issues such as bullying, abuse, youth violence, human trafficking, foster care, behavioral health, substance abuse, and the juvenile justice system are often interconnected.
In addition to promoting your organization, we want to increase awareness of CalYouth’s statewide authority and go-to resource for information on youth experiencing homelessness.
The success of Youth HOPE Month depends mainly on the activities we can help generate among our members and supporters. We look to you to help get the word out: to work with your local government officials and civic organizations to engage the media and the public on the issues surrounding youth runaways and youth experiencing homelessness.
